Planning our digi-pak

For our course we have also been given the task to create our own digi-pak. Previously I have posted about other digi-pak that I have analysed from artists. I looked at how it was laid out, what sorts of images were used and how many panels there were. I also tried to understand why they used the image they did and what mod it created. From the analysis I have generated ideas that I can put towards my very own digi-pak. As a group we have decided to keep the front cover panel very simple and try to show through the cover the type of music that’s on the CD. We have said that we will use an image from the music video to put on the front to make the whole digi-pak and CD link. However we need to still discuss what we will be doing for the inside of the digi-pak.

Images of the group filming

Here are some pictures we took during the filming process. These pictures show that all the members are participating in the filming part. We also help put ideas forward and shows us as a group working together.

Group Editing

These are some pictures that i took whilst we were editing our music video. You can see in these images that all the members in the group are taking part in editing process and we all have responsibilities and not left to one member to edit.

Last bit of editing for the first draft

As we are coming to an end of finishing our music video we are under pressure of finishing the video on time. We have few parts to edit but most of it is nearly finished. We need to find couple more shots that we can add in to make the video flow better. We have left these parts to last because they are much harder to edit and the lip-syncing needs to be exact otherwise it wont flow well. I would say that we are making good progress but we only have a week to hand in the final piece of work which needs to be at a good quality. Below are some screen grabs of the editing process:

Filming

Today we went around school and filmed various part of the music video. As we reviewed our film we decided we need to film more parts over again because the first time round wasn’t up to scratch. Therefore we went filming the first 30 seconds and the penultimate verse. We went to the dance studio to film this part. We filmed through the mirror to give a different effect to the video. We were experimenting and it looked good so we used it for our actual video. We also filmed a scene outside where the character was writing in a note pad the lyrics of the song which made it look like the song was actually written by the character. As I was the character in the video I had to act like I was crying to show different emotions through the video. It was difficult but I think we got some clips of tears. However we still need to upload it and edit it to see if any of the clips we captured are any good.

05/12/2011

Reviewing our film

We have reviewed the editing we have done so far on our music video and we are nearly coming to an end. Nevertheless we have identified that the first 30 seconds of the film does not flow with the rest of the video so we have to go back and film some more and adjust the lighting. The first time round we got the lighting wrong and the position of the singer wrong. We couldn't actually see the character singing because it was too dark and the quality of the camera was poor as well.

Editing the footage from Valentines park

Today we have been editing the clips that we shot in Valentines park. We had lots of clips from there so we have a variety of clips that we could use to make up the music clip. We put the clips in the places that weren't filled up but there is much more editing we need to do. We still need to make the video flow a bit better and shoot few more scene because the previous clips that we have shot haven't been too good and ruins the video. We have got different locations to film these scenes because we decided that the location we used for the beginning of the video weren't good enough.

Filming at Valentines park

Today we went and filmed at Valentines park in Ilford. We went and filmed the last scene that we are going to do outside. There was a lot of different features that we filmed so it looked like the character was wondering around. I was the actor so i had to get in the mood of the character and be emotional. We went looking around the park first to see what sort of locations there was then we chose few of the eye-catching ones. I sang the whole song so we captured everything so when it comes to editing we have lots of footage to pick from. The weather was also good for the filming as it was bright and not gloomy and allowed the camera to pick things up easily. the park had similar characteristics as Goodmayes (the other location we filmed at) so it didn't look like we have moved on to a totally different park. This is good as the music video will flow better than if the park looked different and also the brightness of the day was very similar to the day we filmed in Goodmayes park.

Itchycoo Park- Small Faces and Valentines Park

The song Itchy-coo Park was by the Small Faces which where fairly famous in the 60's. This is important to us because they filmed their video in Valentines Park in Ilford, which is the place we want to go and film the last part of our music video. It is special to us because it is a famous place which we are going to film and it has made history

22/11/2011

More editing

Today we done more editing and uploaded some of the footage from the park. We have worked hard to get the lip syncing to be on time. Some parts we harder than others, and we found more effects that go well with our video and the emotions we are trying to create. its been fun using also the special effects and other tools available. We do have lots more editing to do on the clips from the park and some more filming.

21/11/2011

Editing

Today we uploaded the parts of the clips that we filmed in Goodmayes park.  We uploaded and edited it roughly because we don't have all the clips. This is why we have to put it together until we can get all the clips and fill in the gaps.

20/11/2011

Filming at Goodmayes park

Today me and my group went to film in Goodmayes park. However we did originally plan to go to Valentines Park but we didn't have much time to go there. there was various parts to the park so we filmed in different paces. For example we filmed one part on the bridge and then on part looking off the bridge. We also filmed at the entrance where it had a long pathway which was great to show a flash back of the two couples walking together. We didn't really have any difficulties in filming but we did try to avoid others getting into the clip. Below are some pictures of the places we filmed.

16/11/2011

Second stage of editing

Today we edited the scenes that we shot on the school stage. we first uploaded all the clips and then broke them up into smaller section so we could see clearly what we have recorded. We then picked out the best bits and shots. We did try to use a range of shots like long and close up shots, as well as low and high angle shots to give more character to each shot. Then we joined the scenes together by layering them and using the "mountain" tool to make the clips flow and look like a proper music video. It was interesting using all the different tools and effects and it has helped me understand more about how to use these equipment's.

14/11/2011

Filming

Today we went and filmed the next part of the music video. We got to use the school stage for this part. Firstly we had to sort out the lighting and then the setting of the stage. We decided to use the black curtains to cover up the walls as it gave a more professional look to the the setting. We  had the singer stand in various places of the stage and then we filmed from different angels. There were some long shots and close up of the singer. The singer was also told to move around the stage to emphasis the movement and add some character. Another good shot we conducted was to have a high angel shot so it made the singer look fragile and vulnerable. This really emphasis how she feels and all the emotions shes going through.

11/11/2011

Editing the first part

At first it was hard to grasp on the role of editing. But we did do simple editing for example uploading and cutting the clips into smaller sections. Then we put the clips in with the song so it matched. This part was difficult as we had to link the hand movements with the actual music playing. We had to cut different parts and place them together and make it look smooth as possible. This is so the video looks professional and interesting to watch.

07/11/2011

Filming the first scene

Today we filmed the first part of the music video again as the first time we done it, it didn't quite plan out the way we hoped. So we have tried shooting again and it seemed to go fine. We had to set all the props up and the camera. We told the character to sit on the floor with the acoustic guitar. this links in with the music playing at the beginning of the song. For this scene the character didn't sing as we only shot the first 30 seconds of the song. We had to adjust the lighting as we made it darker to create a sad atmosphere. We shot from different angles and from different distances. We tried to make her look vulnerable and full of emotion as we filmed her from a high angle shot.

05/11/2011

Roles within the team

Now I will be the main singer but when it comes to editing the video clips I will also put my expertise into it. Jenna has put herself forward to be the person who records the video and Sam too. They will come in and edit when they have time but in lesson time we will all have input and edit together. Some people may be better at something than others so they might be in charge of that.

Rough outline of initial ideas

This is just a rough outline of our first ideas and what we might include in our music video.

01/11/2011

Location

The location that we have picked is a local park in Ilford. It is very attractive and has lots of features that we can add in the film to create a specific atmosphere. We want to create a calm yet sad and emotional feeling. The aim is to get the viewers attached to the singer/character and all the emotions they are going through. Below are some pictures of some parts of the park where we  could potentially film.

Meeting

Today we had a meeting about the progress that we are making. We have decided that the lead that we got for our music video wasn't up to standard and thought to start filming all over again. I have volunteered to be the lead singer as i think i can do a better. Below is a little part of the film that we have edited.

The lyrics for Im Sorry

These are the official lyrics to Amanda Lucas's song given by amanda lucas herself.

I've never been one for apologies
You know for me, they never came easy
But I'm, I'm gonna take full responsibility
For everything that happened between you and me now

I've had some time now that I'm here on my own
To see things clearly, to see what I did wrong
And I'm, I'm sorry that it took so long
For me to realize that you're where I belong now

So many words I've been dying to say
So many feelings that get in the way
So many times I've pushed off all the blame
But not today, you know I

I never meant to hurt you, I know I don't deserve you, I'm sorry
I might have took you for granted, but I can't stand it.
It's killing me inside
All the times that we tried and all the tears that we cried
Just know that I'm sorry, can you forgive me?

Why are thoughts of you all I can find?
Repeating scenes of memories, that explode in my mind
And I, I wish that we could just rewind
Back to when I was yours and you were mine

So many words I've been tryin to say
So many feelings that get in the way
So many times I've pushed off all the blame
But not today, you know I

I never meant to hurt you, I know I don't deserve you, I'm sorry
I might have took you for granted, but I can't stand it.
It's killing me inside
All the times that we tried and all the tears that we cried
Just know that I'm sorry, can you forgive me?

Manipulation was my favorite game
Deceitful and selfish is what I became
It's hard to admit but I think you would agree
You're better off without me

I never meant to hurt you, I know I don't deserve you, I'm sorry
I might have took you for granted, but I can't stand it.
It's killing me inside
All the times that we tried and all the tears that we cried
Just know that I'm sorry, can you forgive me?

Explanation of the mood board

I created a mood board because it allowed me to show what sort of emotion, colour and props i want to add in the music video. It also suggests some ideas on the setting and the scene thats we might include. It brings all the ideas together as one and enables me to have a view of all the ideas that i have come up with and add in other ideas.

20/10/2011

Costumes and props

For our video we first had to sit down as a group and plan out exactly the emotions we wanted to create within the video. We decided to create a sad and cold atmosphere; therefore we suggested that the main singer should wear cold and dark colours and make it seem like a cold day. We also wanted the character to look informal and more casual looking to give the music video a more urban vibe so that the young audience can relate

We also used different props to make the music video have some character. We want to use a musical instrument during the video because it will add some character to the singer. we also thoughts its another feature we could add and make it seem that the character only has an instrument to play and is very lonely. we also came up with ideas of the character doing other actions apart from just singing.

Im sorry- animatic

In our storyboard we drawer all the scene that we are going to do in our actual video. I have taken a picture from each clip to show all the frames that we are going to do. To make the pictures into an animatic I uploaded it on Final cut express. I also put the song in the background so that you can see the animatic going with the song.

Examples of digipak's

Today we looked at some examples of didgipak's and how they relate to the song. One example is the Vixens' digipak.
I know that my group have to design a didgipak of our own to demonstrate how to create a package and how a whole music video would be produced.
We have to create a six panel didgipak and a magazine cover linked with our song.
What needs to be included on our digipak: front, spine, back membership postcard/ fliers, lyric section, disk impression and artist information/ section.

This is another example of a digipak. This is by Alert Hammond and his album Yours to Keep. This shows a six panel digipak with two different images. You can see that when you open up the digipak it creates one whole image. The first three panels are the front, back and inside panels. These images seem like hand-drawn therefore the use of handwritten font on the front works really well. However he Second three panels are a picture of a sun-set with the band members in the frame. This at first seemed to clash with the other panel but when i analysed it closer it seemed to work together. Both of these images create a peaceful and clam atmosphere, and the three rabbits in the first panels have been incorporated in the second panels as it has the three members in it. Moving on to the actual CD it seems to flow with the ideas of the sun-set and the three rabbits. All of the the three individual pieces have their own images but the ideas created are the same.

Organising

Today as a group we sat down and discussed where we were going to start with the music video. We decided that first we need to put our story board up and then start filming next week. We also talked about the props, costume, hair and make-up of the character in our music video. All in all we have made good progress and made clear what we are going to do.

Summary of the focus group

We conducted a focus group where the age of the individuals ranged from 15-17. They were all females so this could be a problem because we don't know what males would have said about the song. we found that this song came across as being emotional and sad, and it made the group feel sad and emotional. When i looked back at the clip i found that the body language of the interviewees where sloped suggesting that they where moved by the lyrics. From this we have concluded that the way we are going about to film out music video, is that we are going to catch peoples emotions and make them feel what the character might be going through.

Survey monkey

We have created a survey from Survey Monkey to gather some information on research audience about our music. We wanted to find out what sort of music people like and what they like to see when they hear a particular genre. You can see from the results below what people have to say. the people who took the survey were aged 16-20 and majority of them wanted to see singing in the video and all of them said they liked pop music. they also want to see relationships in music video and thats what we have done and most of them want to se girls in music videos.
